So which is really the best juicer?
Lately, I have rediscovered the joys of juicing. Our household had a 25-year-old Braun juicer that still worked well. The downside was having to stop and remove the pulp if we were making juice for more than one person. The size of the feed tube meant we needed to cut the produce into smaller chunks and it did not do leafy greens. It didn’t seem to be very efficient since the pulp was quite wet. Cleaning was not difficult but the plastic stained badly from carrot juice.
I had the opportunity to use the Omega juicer and liked the idea of making nut butters and juicing leafy greens, too. It was an excellent juicer but very slow. The fact that it made pasta was not a selling point for me since extruded pasta is not as good as rolled pasta and after all, I was looking for a juicer. The omega was slow in juicing carrots, my primary ingredient. If you juice only wheatgrass, there are less expensive juicers on the market to do that. I have also seen more than one auger returned chipped from juicing. It has several more parts to clean and is a bit awkward to get the brush into the tubes so it must be cleaned immediately after using. I did not buy this one.
The next juicer I tried was the die-cast Breville Juice Fountain Elite. If one could have a passionate affair with a juicer, this would be the one! It’s easy to use, has a wide feed tube that easily takes lemons and most apples without chopping, juices a liter in seconds so a family can have juice together without having to stop and clean the equipment. The downside? It will not do soft, leafy greens, wheatgrass or nut butters. Ihave done kale in it by squeezing it into a tight ball and following with a hard veggie like carrots or beets. The two speeds allow you to do citrus and softer foods on low and then the harder things on high. The pulp is almost like sawdust. It rinses clean in seconds, too. Yes, this is the one I bought and it’s the best juicer I’ve ever used.
Here is a juicing contest followed by a cleaning contest that just happens to compare these three juicers. Enjoy!
Part One
And the winner is...
Get one – you’ll love it! I bought a factory reconditioned juicer which basically means a return – maybe a duplicate wedding present. Mine came with a six-month warranty and you save a lot of money! Just click on the juicer at right for more information. This one isn't refurbished but it's still a good deal.
If you have any favourite recipes for juicing, let us know and we’ll post them. When juicing, use organic produce. Organic lemons can be popped in whole, peel and all. It’s delicious! Here’s one to get you started – juice for two:
8 large carrots
1 apple
1 whole lemon

I totally want this juicer! I love carrot juicw. However it is so expensive here in Rochester, NY. I am putting it on my wish-list! Voted up!
Great article and videos!
SilverGenes: FABULOUS! I have been wondering for ages what juicer to look at. I bought the Jack Lalanne initially and while it juices well... it is not made of durable materials. I juice for myself only, so need to find juice recipes that accommodate one person... I enjoyed reading your hub, it is very thorough. I look forward to visiting again soon. :) Voted useful, interesting and up.
Thank you for those suggestions, SilverGenes! I find that I tend to go for the sweeter veggies and fruits (eternal sweet tooth) where I need to include more GREEN! A good night's sleep is JUST what the doctor ordered. :)
Thanks much for the recommendation, SilverGenes. :)
